Deadly Dark Chocolate Contributes to 100,000 Cases of Pet Poisoning in the U.S.

Embrace Pet Insurance [http://www.embracepetinsurance.com ] has opened up their database to reveal the human foods that poison the most pets the company insures, ahead of Poison Prevention Week. Chocolate tops the list of food accident claims received by the Embrace Pet Insurance, followed by raisins and mushrooms.

Last year, there were more than 100,000 cases of pet poisoning in the U.S. Many of these were caused by substances commonly contained in the home. Poison Prevention Week covers all forms of poisoning, and Embrace is keen to ensure part of the spotlight is focused on pets. Laura Bennett [CEO &; Co-Founder of Embrace says: "Raising awareness of everyday hazards in your own pantry can help prevent undue distress to the nation's pets.

" The top 20 items from Embrace's claims in order of frequency were:
1) Chocolate
2) Raisins
3) Mushroom
4) Xylitol (sweetener)
5) Grapes
6) Vitamins
7) Gum
8) Bones
9) Chicken
10) Macadamia Nuts
11) Sugar
12) Bread
13) Cake
14) Coffee
15) Corn Cobs
16) Dough
17) Meat
18) Rawhide
19) Salmon
20) Avocado

Pet poisoning symptoms can include gastrointestinal and neurological problems, cardiac and respiratory distress, coma, and even death. Symptoms depend on the item and quantity ingested or inhaled, and the physiological response of each animal can vary. Laura went on to say: "If you do want to give your pet a treat, most dogs are fine eating lean cuts of meat as long as they have been properly cooked and thoroughly cooled. You can further decrease the opportunity of food related problems by removing all visible fat -- including the skin on poultry and ensuring that there are no bones in meat before you give it to your dog. "

"It's a smart idea to always keep the number of your local vet and the closest emergency clinic close by so you know you can find it in a hurry. If you think your pet has consumed something that's toxic, call for emergency help at once."

Arthritis Sufferers Go Pain-Free With All-Natural SOONER RELIEF

Safe, proven solution quickly fights the pain associated with America's most common disability

PR Newswire

OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 18, 2011

OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Maybe there's no cure for America's most common disability, but for the estimated 50 million victims of arthritis, there's a way to get relief "sooner than later." Developed by a rheumatologist physician with over 30 years of practice and research, SOONER RELIEF (http://soonerpainrelief.com) is a breakthrough pain-relief gel that delivers fast, proven results.

SOONER RELIEF is formulated with medicinal herbs that penetrate the source of aches and pains. Initially called AMR-7, this 100 percent natural, FDA-compliant solution is now being re-branded under a less-clinical name, SOONER RELIEF. Patients everywhere are using it to soothe not only arthritis but also backaches, strains, bruises, sprains and more.

"It's been very exciting to witness the growing success of SOONER RELIEF," says Rod Cleveland, co-founder/vice president of operations for Physical Performance Health, LLC, which manufactures the gel. "We're continually hearing that it's reducing or totally eliminating pain and in a way that's much more sensible and safer than what's currently available to consumers. And this last point is very important, considering the recent concerns about potential gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risks that are now being associated with today's popular arthritis pills."

Unlike conventional medications, SOONER RELIEF features time-tested, key ingredients and remedies such as arnica, aloe vera, MSM, menthol and medicinal herbs. Free of toxic pigments, animal products and dyes, the powerful, paraben-free compound is delivered through a non-greasy gel that cools the skin and alleviates inflammatory pain. Although a product of the United States, SOONER RELIEF has been formulated in accordance with the strict guidelines set by the German Commission E Monographs and other reputable sources that monitor the authenticity and safety of all-natural remedies.

"The FDA doesn't recognize the medicinal properties of herbs but many countries do, and so we've intentionally established product credibility through careful consultation with the German Commission E Monographs," Cleveland says. "But it's not just our strict standards of product excellence that are supporting SOONER RELIEF's success. We've had all kinds of folks discovering that this is one pain-relief product that really works."

In fact, demand for SOONER RELIEF has exploded. It's been increasingly recommended by pharmacists and doctors nationwide, and is a favorite remedy of patients like the Grammy award-winning Carol Connors, who depends on it to play her guitar and piano pain-free. SOONER RELIEF makes it possible for people of all ages to lead active lifestyles, while delivering the peace of mind that comes with choosing a safe, long-lasting solution.

Hospital and Doctor Mistakes

From: Robin Heinem – Resident

at University Illinois Chicago

Dear Joanna,

Remember September the 11th and over 3,000 people dying? Do you know that over 5,000 people

die each day in the world from the negligence of hospitals and

doctors? I learned this first hand when counting statistics for my research paper on world

medicine. There are a lot of good doctors out there. I am studying to become one myself. Even the

best doctors make mistakes no matter if you are in a private hospital or a county hospital. You

need to know as a patient what your rights are. People need to

ask a lot of questions, do not agree to just take the medicine

that a nurse hands you, demand to check it first to make sure what

you are taking, the right dosage and the known side effects. The

most common thing I have witnessed are IV site infections.

Not everyone in the hospital needs an IV. If you are awake and

you can eat, drink fluids and go to the bathroom yourself, and you

are not taking medications that are required intraveneously, you

can request not to have an IV inserted and to take your

medications orally. The second most common failure I have seen

is the mishandling of medical records and medical tests. You do

not have to take at face value an initial blood test or any test for that

matter. If you are in doubt that a procedure or test has yielded

questionable results, you can assert your voice to ask for a

second opinion and/or second test. Preferably by a different

hospital or clinic. Go on the internet and search your doctor’s

name through malpractice databases to see if that doctor

has been cited before for malpractice.

If you are going for surgery also ask for the names of all the doctors attending and the

anesthesiologist. You can look up their names as well to make sure you are in capable hands.

Alternative Health Feature:

Common Foods That Can Be Dangerous.
Potassium is a mineral that is found in most foods. You need some potassium to keep your heart working as it should. However having too much potassium can cause your heart to stop. This month we will explore foods that contain a high level of potassium. When you eat too much potassium it naturally raises the blood pressure. It prohibits the body from maintaining normal blood pressure control. Eating too much potassium can result a diagnosis of hypertension, can prohibit you from losing weight, can facilitate a heart attack, stroke, water retention, damage to the liver and/or the kidneys. Signs of your body having too much potassium can include water retention, not breathing well, diarrhea and nausea. Many of you have asked me to create a list of high-risk foods that must be limited in your diet in order to maintain optimal health.
Please limit these foods:

Tomato, celery, ketchup, tangelo,
apricots, bananas, dates, figs,
kiwi, melon, nectarine, oranges,
pears, prunes, asparagus,
avocado, beets, beet greens,
brussel sprouts, celery, cooked
chard, cooked chinese cabbage,
mushrooms, pumpkin, cooked

Tip: If you are going to cook any of
the above vegetables , cut and
soak them in a bowl of water for
four hours before preparation, this
will help to drain out some
potassium. Drain rinse and then
drain again. Cook in a large pot of
water. Throw out the water before
serving.
